Early Morning Delivery Driver
Giant Freight is looking for a self-employed Early Morning Delivery Driver to sub-contract out of Bodmin, Cornwall and Surrounding Area. Monday to Sunday, 03:30–10:00, covering Bodmin and surrounding areas. Rate is £70.00–£114.00 per day, averaging around 35 hours per week. No nights out — home by breakfast. Immediate start available.
The role
If you like an early start and an early finish, this is the round for you. You will drive one of our pre-loaded delivery vans on a fixed early-morning route around Bodmin and surrounding areas, dropping bakery goods, fresh food, parcels and time-critical freight before most of the world is awake. This is a self-employed sub-contract engagement — not an employment role.
What you will be doing
- Start from our Exeter depot around 03:30–04:30, six days per week
- Load your van from a pre-sorted cage and double-check against the manifest
- Deliver to a fixed early-morning route of 30–60 drops across Exeter and Mid Devon
- Handle fragile and time-critical goods with care (bakery, fresh food, newspapers, parcels)
- Complete paper or electronic proof of delivery at every drop
- Keep the van clean, tidy and fuelled, and report any defects to the transport office
- Return to depot by mid-morning ready for the next day’s sort

What we need from you
- Registered as a sole trader, CIS or limited company and responsible for your own Income Tax and National Insurance / Corporation Tax
- UK UTR (sole trader) or company registration number (Ltd), plus business bank account for self-billed payments
- Own public liability and goods-in-transit insurance, or willing to arrange before start
- Full UK Category B driving licence (held 2+ years preferred)
- No more than 6 points (no DR, IN, DD endorsements)
- Able to reliably start work before 04:00 six days per week
- Physically fit — the role involves a lot of in-and-out of the van
- Polite, professional manner for early-morning customer contact
- Right to work in the UK
Working relationship — important
This position is offered on a self-employed, sub-contract basis. You must be a registered sole trader, CIS-registered worker or limited company, and be fully responsible for your own Income Tax, National Insurance (or Corporation Tax), VAT where applicable, and any expenses. This engagement does not form an employment or worker contract under the Employment Rights Act 1996, and does not carry employee benefits such as paid holiday, sick pay or a workplace pension. You retain a genuine right of substitution — you may send a suitably qualified and insured replacement driver, subject to our reasonable vetting, if you cannot cover a run personally.
